What is ElevenLabs?
The first thing you notice with ElevenLabs is how human it sounds. Paste in a script, choose a voice from the library, and the narration comes back with pauses, emphasis and tone that make it easy to forget nobody recorded it.
Beyond text-to-speech, we found plenty to explore: cloning your own voice from samples, dubbing videos into other languages while keeping the speaker's character, and generating sound effects from a description. Developers get an API that powers a lot of voice apps and agents.
Voice cloning comes with responsibility, and ElevenLabs requires consent safeguards for it. The free tier is great for trying things out, with plans from $5 per month, but character limits mean long audiobooks or heavy production work push you into higher tiers.
