NotebookLM
Google's free research notebook that answers questions only from the sources you give it.
NotebookLM flips the usual chatbot setup. Rather than answering from the whole internet, it works from the documents you upload, like PDFs, Google Docs, web pages or YouTube videos, and cites where each answer came from.
The feature everyone talks about is Audio Overviews, which turns your sources into a podcast-style conversation between two AI hosts. We were surprised how useful it is for absorbing a dense report on a walk. It can also produce study guides, briefing docs and FAQs from your material.
It's free, which makes it an easy recommendation. Just remember it's only as good as what you feed it, there are limits on how many sources each notebook holds, and the audio hosts occasionally oversimplify.
Best for: Students and researchers working from their own documents
Summarizing a stack of research papers
Studying for exams from lecture notes
Listening to a report as a podcast-style recap
